Pants Magic - my new logo

Let me introduce my new logo.

It took me a while to create it, but I like how it looks.

The main idea it reflects is as follows: perfect pants make you look like a diamond, sparkle with beauty and be always out of the row.  You'll see this leg in a diamond on photos of my works.

Creating of something like this is an extremely interesting process. Logo should be unique, and introduce the philosophy of your business in graphics.

Looking at your logo everybody will know what it is about - cooking, or gardening, or energy or clothes, or whatever. But this is not enough, logo should keep the mood, explain what is essential, what is the concept, and why, in the end of the day, your business will be useful or even necessary for me.

How to create a perfect logo?

It is said that people remember pictures a lot better than words, so it is really handy to have a graphic image that reflects your ideas.

How to make a logo? I think there are different methods, from calling a professional designer to spontaneous inspiration in the middle of the night. Professor Karl T. Ulrich (University of Pennsylvania) in his course

Design: Creation of Artifacts in Society

on www.coursera.org  depicts a very interesting way of creating a logo or anything like it.

First of all you should collect all possible images, never mind if they are crazy, too big or small etc. Just everything that comes to your head, no comparison, measuring or evaluating at this stage.  Such a brain storming. If you can think of hundreds of versions - that's good!

On the second stage there come criteria. You throw away logos that don't fit your needs. What qualities does logo picture have to possess?
                                                                      - not too big
                                                                      - not too complicated
                                                                      - it must be visible being very small, for example at the bottom of the photo, so lines have to be pretty thick
                                                                      - it should look good and recognisable in black and white and in colour. Consider colours you'll place it on.

All pictures that just don't fit your criteria, are gone at this stage, and you are left with a few good ones. How to choose the perfect one? Well, consider your style, connection between logo and your vision of your business, and simply which one you like most. True style grows from within, trust your intuition.

Here I found some drawings to trace my own creative work. What do I do for people? How do I imagine my customer wearing my product?

It was evident that I must play with some part of trousers to depict the main idea of sewing. But what to take?

A pocket with the magic wand  peeking out?

A fairy with a magic wand wearing pants? Unusual for a fairy, isn't it?

A back pocket with a crown?

Whole silhouette in model posture? Isn't it too popular?

Only bottom half? Bottom half with a crown? Isn't it silly?

Pants with some embellishment, like a leaf, pinned to it? Pins  symbolise sewing, and leafs - life, aliveness, which is always good. But how would it look like in small size? Not visible at all?

And suddenly it came - just one leg in trousers, on high heel, captured by a diamond shape like a picture frame. Simple, elegant and I really think it is quite understandable.
Be like a diamond! Let others admire your look!
(Some colouring on this picture was added later on by my daughter)

To be honest I must say that it is the first stage only. For a non-professional PC designer there comes an uneasy task to draw it out using digital technologies. I have used Sketchbook application for Mac. For my simple drawing it was quite enough - straight lines and circles, nothing more.

I have made a couple of dozens of legs, experimenting with line thickness, form of a diamond, form of an under-knee fold, posture etc.

From here...                                    ...to there...
                   ...and back again.
It takes a while to get satisfied with the picture.

It got colour and lost it a couple of times, became paler and brighter, and finally my photos are signed. Like this.
